Acting Techniques / Character Study I (primarily for beginners)

This course focuses on the systematic development of roles and characters, as well as the conscious exploration of the relationship between actor, role, and character. Participants will learn both the fundamentals of acting and methodological approaches to character work.

Course contents:

Role and Character Development:
A solid introduction to the analysis and creation of roles, considering objectives, motivation, obstacles, and subtext.

Bodywork and Presence Training:
Training posture, breathing, focus, energy, and quality of movement as the foundation for authentic and believable stage performance.

Voice and Speech Training:
Work on resonance, articulation, clarity of speech, and vocal impact in different performance situations.

Movement and Expression:
Dance and movement sequences to develop musicality, coordination, impulse work, and physical expression.

Improvisational Character Work:
Solo, partner, and group improvisations for spontaneous character creation, status work, relationship dynamics, and сценic reactions.

Character Study according to Stanislavski:
Analysis of objectives, motivation, obstacles, and subtext; working with the “magic if,” inner action, and stage partnership.

Scene Work with Text:
Development of monologues and dialogues while considering character, situation, and thematic context.

Theatre Evening / Presentation:
Participation in stage presentations where monologues, dialogues, and movement scenes are publicly performed. The techniques developed during the course will be applied in practice.

Please bring:

• Black, loose-fitting clothing (no jeans, no sportswear)

• Notebook and pen

Acting Techniques / Character Study II – Portraying Other Characters (Transformation)

The focus of this advanced seminar is on:

• portraying unfamiliar characters,
• working with original texts, existing texts (roles), and playwrights’ texts,
• developing stories (for example, creating a story inspired by an object) and performing scenes.

Improvisation:
Solo, partner, and group improvisations, particularly in the field of object theatre.

Scene and Text Work:
Working on short monologues and dialogues (partner work).

After the text analysis phase, participants will begin developing scenic situations based on selected scenes and texts.

Please bring:

• Black, loose-fitting clothing (no jeans / no sportswear)
• Notebook and pen
